The Bad Moms film nails these parenting truths

THE Bad Moms movie promised me everything.
As I sat in my mum jeans, with my hair unbrushed and my makeup half worn off, I laughed, I cried and I cringed.
Is it full of stereotypes? Hell yes.
Are some things over done and wildly inappropriate? Yep.
But it is also hilarious and totally relatable? S**t yes.
For once Hollywood just got it.
Bad Moms was just spot on with so many things, like:
THE JUDGEMENT TOWARDS WORKING MUMS
When Gwendolyn (Christina Applegate) patronisingly speaks to Amy (Mila Kunis) at the school gate, “You are such a strong person being able to leave your kids all day, don’t you miss them?” Amy’s blank stare is every working mum, ever. “Umm yeah but I kinda need, err money.”
THE BREAKING POINT WHEN YOU WANT TO GIVE UP
Everyone has been there. Not even just mums, everyone. It. Just. Gets. Too. Much. Life is hard sometimes. We all have our breaking points.
Here’s to breaking points.

PENIS JOKES CAN BE HILARIOUS
I’m not sure how one of the funniest scenes in an almost all-female movie is about male genitalia but it is. Crude, sure. Inappropriate, borderline. But the entire audience of the cinema was in stitches and that speaks for itself.
THE IMPORTANCE OF LAUGHING WITH FRIENDS WHO GET IT
Yes life is hard but it’s not nearly as hard when you have a few besties who can literally turn your day around. I guess it helps if those besties are Kathryn Hahn, Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis, though.
This is just silly, but funny all the same.

SCHOOLS ASK PARENTS TO DO WAY TOO MUCH
Schools ask parents to do way too much stuff — Seriously. Enough is enough. Amy had my vote for PTA President the minute she said, “if you want to do less.”
THERE ARE NO PERFECT PARENTS AND WE SHOULDN’T JUDGE
Even the “perfect” PTA mum has her faults. We shouldn’t be judging other parents on anything, especially the outside persona they give off at school drop offs. We are all dealing with the same stuff. No one is a perfect parent and we shouldn’t expect anyone to be.
NONE OF US KNOW WHAT THE HELL WE ARE DOING
To all parents of generations past, a little heads up would have been nice. My mum was the age I am now when she had me. Did she really feel as lost as I do? I still can’t fold a fitted sheet properly, I suck at making my kids eat veggies, and I never know if the rash is serious or not. I literally wing parenthood, but I get the feeling most of us do.

WE ALL DO IT FOR A REASON
Screw you, Hollywood. Why do you insist on ending comedies with a deep and meaningful message? Yes I get tired and overworked and cranky and stressed but dammit I’d do it all again, a million times over, for those grotty, stinky, mini humans of mine.
Kids are worth it. All of it. Always.
I am so annoyed, and yet equally impressed, that it took a Hollywood comedy to remind me of that.
Love you, kids.
